NewRiver will walk 20 miles to raise funds & awareness for the Trussell Trust
In June 2024, the NewRiver team are doing the The London Royal Parks Challenge to raise funds and awareness for our long-standing charity partner, the Trussell Trust.
To mark five years of working in partnership with the Trussell Trust and supporting their goal of creating a UK without the need for emergency food, the NewRiver team will be walking 20 miles/32 kms through eight of London’s Royal Parks with the aim of raising £30,000 for the charity. The NewRiver team will be joined by members of retail and leisure advisors Lunson Mitchenall, creating a group of 40 walkers.
The walking challenge will take place on Thursday 27 June 2024, starting in Richmond Park and ending on the south side of Tower Bridge. Walking through some of London's historic and iconic spaces, the route includes Brompton Cemetery, Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park, Green Park, St. James’s Park, Westminster and Victoria Tower Gardens, before heading north to Regents Park, and finishing on the south side of Tower Bridge. The esteemed walking Challenge is graded as 'tough', covering 20 miles/32 kms on varied terrain from footpaths to urban roads, and is estimated to take around 10 hours.
NewRiver are proud to continue to support the Trussell Trust and hope that with the support of advisors, partners, suppliers, friends and family they can raise £30,000 to help the Trussell Trust fulfil their goals to reduce poverty, raise awareness and work towards a future where food banks are no longer required in the UK.
Emma Mackenzie, Head of ESG, NewRiver said: “We are delighted to be supporting the Trussell Trust by taking on this challenging walk and hope to raise a significant amount of money and awareness by doing so.
More than 3.1 million emergency food parcels were distributed by food banks in the Trussell Trust network in the past 12 months*, which is a shocking 94% increase over the past 5 years. There is a real and urgent need for support. We are delighted to be walking with our friends from Lunson Mitchenall and are grateful that they have chosen to support NewRiver and the Trussell Trust.”
